Overview:

In commemoration of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere’s legacy as the leader who guided Tanganyika to independence in 1961 and served as Tanzania’s first prime minister and later president, the Julius Nyerere Scholarship was established in 2009. The scholarship pays tribute to Nyerere’s own academic journey, which began with his receipt of a scholarship in 1949 to attend the University of Edinburgh. At Edinburgh, Nyerere pursued a Master of Arts degree that covered diverse subjects such as English, Political Economy, Social Anthropology, British History, Economic History, Constitutional Law, and Moral Philosophy.
